From hearing other's experience with being sprayed it seemes like all the "tricks" will reduce the smell but it never quite goes away.
This seems like quite the adventurous campout! I can honestly say I'm glad I decided not to go! Making the decision not to go was gnawing at me but these two reports confirm it was the right decision.
I cant wait to see how the other guys made out.
We might have to plan another, lower-key, campout before the years over. I've only met half of the active AZ hangers on this forum and would like to meet more.
Sounds like an adventure. Looks like your son was having fun tho,,,glad things turned out alright. Brought back memories of my days working in the bush and getting trucks stuck miles from help. All's well that ends well.

This group hang sounds more like a masocchist's dream.
I agree with you roadtorque, I'd like to get together. Not all forest roads are created equal, but my vote is for accessibility, perhaps as low-class as a campground near the verde or something. The wet beaver campground is accessible and has good scenery.
I'm just disappointed we couldn't get in any further.

If it were not for the week of rain it would have turned out just fine I'm sure. Your right, not all FS roads are equal. Having a car is my greatest limitation for backpacking
You're right roadtorque. During the drive down from flagstaff, I kept hoping all the rain had stayed up here, but I was wrong. Hopefully we will hear if there is any interest in an end-of-2010 hang; my weekends are starting to fill up.…

What Happened? SamuelJD, SmashTorent, Te-Wa, Felicia and I had a great time. SamD + 1, stayed at trail head, HF official Greeter. Report to Fallow.

Our window was Friday through Saturday, but due to bad road conditions and the fact I had my low-clearance sedan, we never made it to the trailhead, let alone the canyon. I'm disappointed, but glad we made it out okay. We made the decision to bail early on Saturday in the hopes we wouldn't get stuck.
I'm eager to hear the official report. I really look forward to the time I can greet all of you at the next AZ hang!

Next time we run into questionable weather we could meet at rally point and car pool to TH. We could work out scheduling to get as many as possible to the Happy Place. We did actually miss the hangers that did not make it.
