Poor quality down makes the issue of calendaring even more important. High quality down is extremely soft with out a lot of quills and feathers in it. Poor quality down is harder and more quills to poke through the fabric.
This is not to say do not try it. It is simply to explain the trade offs you are making. On the one hand, if the down escapes it might not be a big loss or not as big as if you had purchased brand new high quality down. On the other hand. Once you begin to lose down there is very little you can do to make it stop, or to improve the situation. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
