    Nylon Marking(for sewing)

What do you use to mark your stitch lines and such on your nylon? I always have a hard time getting marking pencils to show up(if they write at all).

Check with a sewing center about tailor's chalk. If possible get a wax based formula as it stays visible better. It is getting hard to find so I don't know how easy it would be. The chalk based formula will do if you get a contrasting color. That is what I would use.

They also make felt tip markers especially for use on fabrics. In theory the color washes out. I haven't used them much but when I did the lines somewhat stained. I didn't care as they wouldn't be seen but if you OCD on appearance you might find it a problem.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have a box of 'Sharpie' pens in assorted colors. I can usually find one with enough contrast. Use the FINE TIP ones. There is a downside though ... you can still see the marks on the finished product, even on both sides with thin nylons. But, that's OK if all you are going for is fuction, not looks. I can't see those marks on my under quilt in the middle of the night, anyway

I was going to use one of my daughters white chalks. I couldn't find any but she did have a white crayon that working pretty well on my black and dark green fabrics.

    Soapstone

Find it in the tool section of Lowes or HD. It is used for marking steel and such for cutting. Washes out easily.

Pardon my ignorance, but is a grease pencil actually greasy? Wouldn't that stain the fabric?

Jsaults, what's in HD or Lowes? The grease pencil?

    Thanks all.

    Soapstone for marking.

I have used to mark cloth and sure used it to mark a lot of steel. It wipes off when your done. It is available in round stick in a dispenser like a pen and also in a flat bar. You just have to put a point on it.

I don't mark seam lines - check the measurement from your machine's needle to the outside left edge of your pressure foot. Most are 1/4", the same width as your seam allowance.

In other words, just line up the raw edges of the seam you're sewing with the left edge of your pressure foot and - voila - just sew.

I have a soapstone marker around here somewhere that is like a weird mechanical pencil with a really fat lead. Must be the "pen" dispenser you mention. I just stick the 'lead' (soapstone) in our old Boston mechanical pencil sharpener to sharpen it up. Works fine.
