it will pull the netting that much closer toward your face

it only blocks your view when you choose to stake it out high like that, it's flexible fabric so you have both options, put the stake closer to the hammock, and the netting will come down and that strip will collapse (like an accordian) and will no longer block your view. you can pitch the edge of the net wherever you want, up high for max headroom, down at your shoulder for max view. i never understand why folks talk about it like it's some physical barrier. make it narrow on the otherhand and you no longer have both options

    Great work!
thanks so much for documenting this.
Too bad I started mine about the time you posted your instructions, as I did not see them until AFTER I screwed up mine.

The next one will be MUCH easier with what I learned + your instructions for doing it the right way.

Did you use a tooth or coil zipper?
I ordered #3 coil from Quest last week... should get it today or tomorrow.
Nevermind... I see on the 2nd page that you used coil.
I'll let you know how the #3 works.

I'm also interested in how to figure out the dimensions for the bug net. I'll be adding mine soon and haven't got a good mental picture of how to figure out the dimensions.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think it speaks volumes about WarbonnetGuy that he is willing to provide constructive feedback on a thread about reverse engineering and copying his product.
Not all manufacturers are so insightful to realize that grassroots passion for their product is a good thing.
After taking a crack at copying his design, I can say that, for me, it would have been FAR more efficient to have just ordered one from him. I'm not in this for efficiency though. I like the challenge of seeing if I can make something myself, and the reward of using something I made.
However, I'll enthusiastically recommend WB products, in part based on his approach to the community.

I too am curious about the Bugnet dimensions. Most DIY I've seen glance over it(except the HH clone). Yet most say it was the hardest part. There has got to be tried and true method.
