    Peg-leg

Used to think aluminum or carbon hiking poles just were'nt woodise enough for hiking. I always carried a wooden hiking stick I'd made myself. On a hiking trip a few years ago my friend's younger son said I sounded like a peg-leg coming up the trail.

Mine comes from F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, but...with my name. That book helped me to choose my major in college (English) and helped me decide to go after the girl that got away (we've been together since, going on 5 years).

On a separate note..GreenLesPaul - That is one heck of an instrument...I think we have the same acoustic/electric Alvarez, if that is an Alvarez. Noticed the djembe too, and I'm wondering if you've ever played a cajon. I just bought one recently, on a whim, and it is awesome. So versatile.

Because of this thread, I finally changed my user ID (from Hike4WD) to what my trail name really is: Scratch
I hike in the desert and after 10 hours, I generally look like this:

    Thus the name ... Scratch.

Knighthorse Nothing really interesting. Knight relates to past family history (Irish roots traced back to 876 a.d.), and is also a word play for "night" (have a genetic oddity that makes me intolerant of exposure to sunlight and as such work/play most often from evening on.) Horse part since I have had horses for 22 years.

Second verse same as the first.

High school history class, Roman empire, Roman senate. When the Teacher mentioned that the no vote was called veto and beeing the only Italian dessent in the school at the time every head in the class turned to me and said "hi Veto", the name stuck. They were actually refuring to the spelling Vito but I told them that is the name they gave me. 65 is the year I was born.

    dontknowyet

Well about 10 years ago I was going to school down in Fort Rucker, Alabama for Air Traffic Controller. It was a tough school for me as my short term memory is just that, short term. Well every time someone would ask me how school was going or where I was going to be stationed once I finished up all I could answer them with was " dontknowyet. " Now I find as I get older it is more fitting then ever.

I am a coffee snob. I drink very expensive coffee and only use a french press. I love, love, love, coffee. Not necessarily for the caffeine either, just the pure flavor of it. Just writing about it makes me want to go have a cup. I don't use a tiny cup either I use a frieken mug (16 oz) And when I am doing my research and writing I drink tea. My favorite thing to when out backpacking is drink my coffee in the morning and watch the sun come up, or whatever scenery I happen to be looking at.

So any way at the end of a backpacking trip my friend and I were discussing gear and stuff, and this was before my advent of lightweight and UL backpacking. He made the comment of he was thinking of swapping out his bigger cup for something smaller to save some weight. I belted in my usual loud assertive, drill sargent voice "screw that when I want some coffee I'm not going to use a dinky cup, I want a frieken mug." He said that's it, your trail name/nick name is "mugs." So that is what I have been going by ever since.

Funny thing: when I was 12 I knew a fellow whose last name was Corpy . . .

. . . one day I mentioned to him that
"When you grow up you could be a mortician
and your company name could be

    'Corpy's Corpse Incorporated"

My real name is "los bravo"
so when looking for a screen name . . .
    as I like Broad Meadows,
I chose the old english name that says that

But, I wouldn't call fulminated my trailname. I'm sure there is one out there for me, but fulminated is the name I use on forums because I tend to be highly opinionated and I'm not afraid to tell you all about it.
