    Woohoo, scored some cheap ripstop

I am so excited, I finally found somewhere that let me get ripstop for $1 a yard. I got 50 yards. Unfortunately, all of this will be used by the scouts, so I need to get some more.

Whats the point of this post. Nothing really other than to say that i think I am now obsessed with hammocks and I haven't even made one yet

Good to hear you found some. All of the Walmarts around here have been updated and now only carry kits with fabric and not bolts. Going to have to check out some in other areas. I did however get some at Joann and had to pay out the nose for it.

It was a local (Tempe, AZ) fabric store called SAS Fabrics. They just had a huge pile of the stuff in the corner of the store that they wanted to get rid of.

I only called on the off chance since it usually is doesn't have sports/utility fabrics. The lady told me that it normally goes really quick whenever they get any in.

Nice to hear someone's getting something. I've been to a couple Walmarts, and the ones that do sell fabric don't have much that is useful. That leaves me with Joanne or Hancock, both of which are fairly pricey. Been thinking about polyester lining, which is cheaper, but it's still not cheap enough to conquer the miser in me, nor is it cheap enough to where I can justify the expense to the Missus (who considers all this hammock stuff a frivolous pastime).

So for now I've got my ear to the ground. Thanks for the encouraging post (it's nice to know that deals do exist), and get some Scouts up in the air!
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

Arizona, I'm with ya on that 1! I own 1, used it for the National Scout Jamboree, started doing some research, found this site, and well............ now I can't wait to DIY. Only problem is finding material. Have a Joann near by, they don't enen know what they have, other than it is rip stop nylon, no weight. And not cheap.

As far as Joann goes - You should never have to pay full price. I normally just call and ask if they have any coupons on hand. They usually do - just be nice

If not, I'll spend two bucks on a Sunday paper. They advertise every Sunday and there is AT LEAST a 40 percent off coupon. That means 1 cut of fabric, however long. Just find the biggest bolt and make sure it is in 3 yard increments for hammocks.

I spent 2 and saved 24 last Monday

    x2 on Joanne's.

Sclittlefield has 1.1 ripstop for sale (2nds, but looks good to me) for #-something a yard. my current hammock is a single layer 1.1 from him... works great.

    It's also downproof...

Joann's nearly always has a coupon going for 40, 50, or 60 off a single non sale item.
