tarp and bivvy for down bag?

To protect my down bag, do I need to carry a bivvy in addition to my MacCat Delux tarp, to make sure my down bag stays dry if there is rain? I'd love to ditch the bivvy weight even though it is very light.

Nope, havent used a mc cat delux (ordering one on the 17th though for my b-day) but from what ive seen they offer plenty of coverage. If its supposed to be really nasty out you can always add grizz beaks or storm pitch it (just leaving a little opening instead of a wide opening on both ends). Also pitching it lower to the ground also helps keep the rain out from blowing up from underneath the tarp.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

a 'garlington taco' should be enough to protect from splash back or windblown droplets.. 5x7 sil sheet, and some shock cord and hooks, you are all set!
KM (who likes light and simple- I use something quite like this to keep my quilt snugged up..)
