Hammock safe bug repellant?

Ok so I saw a topic on here about using deet to treat a hammock for protection against those that bite. Many people were strongly against the use of it and suggested permethrin as a better safer alternative. Well while I was out at Gander Mnt. this evening and stumbled across this product and the main agent in it is permethrin.

Here's a link let me know if this should be a winner for my HHUL when it arrives.

The soaks will last longer than the two weeks listed on the spray. Soaking would also coat the fabric better and more evenly, though the spray will work and I've used sprays in the past. I got some stuff to soak my hammock with, but it looks like I'll wait until next spring to do so.

But since there is no deet and uses the permethrin I should be safe and not damage my hammock? I'm really particular about how I take care of my gear. That was my main concern. I'm sure some way some how the skeeters will find a way at me...this will at least slow them down!

Yes, the lack of deet should make it safe for your gear. I would think if the spray damaged anything, Coleman would reimburse you for the cost since they market it toward use on nylon tents and netting.

I have treated all of my hammocks (from 3 different manufactures) with permethrin with out problems.

several clothing manufacturers use permethrin to treat clothing made of polyester and/or nylon and market the gear as Buzz Off or Insect Shield.

I too have had no problems with permethrin, but DEET has damaged several pieces of gear. And what it does to varnished paddle shafts and grips is not enjoyable.
