    Re-discovered hanger from NC

My trip from last weekend might be a good opportunity to introduce myself:

I have slept in hammocks a lot in the far distant past, and have recently started again.
Last weekend was my first hangin' trip to the Wilson Creek Area in North Carolina:

It started raining heavily (incl. thunderstorms) shortly after midnight, but my army poncho tarp held up surprisingly well.
Got a McCat Deluxe on the way now though.....ya know, you get soft and spoiled when you get old ;-)

Welcome to HF! Where is Harper's Creek? Your setup looks very comfortable.

    Thanks!
Harper Creek is in an area often called Wilson Creek, it's in the Pisgah National Forest.

The Wilson Creek Area is just east of Linville Gorge.
The hikes I've most enjoyed there were starting down Cragg Prong Creek trail & ending up near Hunt Fish Falls. Very nice area.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

East of the Gorge? Or West?

East, just on the other (east) side of the valley that 181 runs up.

    Yep, just east of 181.
The closest "village" is called Mortimer, mostly just a convenience store and a campground, at the intersection of 90 and Brown Mountain Beach Road. Here is a link to Google Maps:

A good place to start for that area are the "Friends of Wilson Creek", with a list of trails here:
