    I'm saying add a sewn on pocket the same size and shape as the bottom of the hammock (Including the slit). Then cut a pad like a "Y" and cover it with silnylon so it would slide in and out easily. Leave an opening at the head end of the hammock to push the pad in through.

    This leaves NO pad in the interior of the hammock to worry with, yet it provides the same insulation.

    Keep in mind that this adds weight, but then winter/cold weather camping IS a heavy weight endeavor...you will be adding a heavier bag, more fleece, more down, etc...trick is to manage the weight gain.

    Just a thought but I would not use sil-nylon I would stick to regular DWR. You could have problems with mosture.

    The pad is already non-breathable, so if it's just a winter hammock it wouldn't change much.
