I would NOT recommend a stand like my portable bamboo one for use with cub scouts. Having worked with cub dens and scout troops, I would only recommend this with older scouts, who are calmer, gentler with their equipment than most scouts of any age, and who are spreading out away from group gatherings to set up their sleep system.

This is a cool design and they do have a mechanical advantage.

Instead of acting like a lever, the angle of force produced by the lever arm makes the moment smaller (or non existent if it is used right). The result is a stake that tries to come out of the ground in the optimal holding direction and not rotate (small or no moment of force).

I may try to build a few of these one day soon to give them a try Thank!

They claim to have a mechanical advantage due to the shape. I tried them in reasonably firm soil. Seemed to hold well but my 180 pounds had them breaking at the right angle.
Maybe an aluminium/titanium version would survive?

I made something about like that and they held well. The problem I found with the ski pole idea was the ski pole starting to bend when you use a single pole. I got some aluminum to make a lighter version of these, but then other projects got in the way and I haven't done anything with this in months.

Yeah, the ski poles work well with two as a bipod, but iffy with one on each end.

    Realy encouraging !!!

    I was thinking of

Aluminium Round Tube 1 1/2 in x 1/4 in and using 1 inch sold to facilitate a join

[ I'm no lightweight lol and far to old to get a break fall in at 3 am ]
