    mn trip recommendations..

Looking for a local trip in MN with a quick hike, nice view and dinner under the tarp. Kid friendly would be nice as it might be easier to explain to the wife versus trying new bottom insulation.

Btw I am west metro so anything around the cities.

Afton State Park has a backpack area with firewood and it is a short walk in.

Real close, real easy? Lake Maria in Monticello. All hike in sites, none of them difficult, none of them terribly exciting, but still pretty and still in the woods.

Might be farther than you want to drive but I have been spending some time in the Root River Valley region in southeast MN, stayed at Lanesboro and Rushford, Preston, Harmonie, etc. Beautiful country, not at all what I pictured Minnesota looking like. There's a state park a little southeast, forget the name of it and the Root River trail bike path. I camped in Lanesboro city park and had some good food there. Hope to get back soon.
