Thank you all again for your ideas. You all are more than helpful

@eflat7 - I love the idea, esp. with MacEntyre's digital snoring playback
@Harpo63 - This looks really good I guess Pacsafe will be also bear-proof, the steel mesh they are using looks really tough.

My biggest concern was that I would lose the key, as there was no way I would get in the bag otherwise!
I lost my key. Switching to a combination lock will solve that even though it might be a bit more heavy than a padlock

Wander around your camp site, jerky motions and waving your arms. Make whooping noises and cluck like a chicken. Swing a large axe in circles over your head while lunging at imaginary enemies and uttering your war cry. Other campers will be too afraid of you to try to steal a thing.

I've thought about getting something like a Flipo Alarm Travelguard to try for various uses.

Another option, if you don't mind carrying the gear is one of those small motion detector alarms with a remote. bring 2 and face them 180 out, turn on and off from inside your hammock. Modify the mount and paint everything but the strobe and detector lens with dark camo paint.

Now for the serious bit. You can use a Pacsafe. They work well. Wrap it around your pack, then lock it to a tree. It should be fine. When I motorcycle camp, all my gear is in locking hardcases. Not insurmountable, but it keeps the curious and opportunists at bay.

Really like the Pacsafe.... just add one of these http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-LED-Li...310234-4255600 to it for a CHEAP audible alarm so you'll know when someones futzing with it.

The Amazon link is cheap, but I'm sure shipping would kill the price...but I've seen them in my local Dollar Tree for $1 each (obviously).
