...so what is the best way to build a pole/stand so I can hang in my yard. I really do not want to dig a hole and set a 4"x4".
Thanks,
Greg

i would set a 4x4 either, id go with a 6x6 and put some serious topsy turvies (sp??) on the 3 sides that are not for the hammock.
I think I will get a 6x6 and some 2x6 boards and try something.

Still open for suggestions.

There are ground anchors for trapping that can be driven into the ground.
one end of your suspension goes over a 2x4 and then down to this ground anchor at a ~45 degree angle.
The single 2x4 will keep you upright (make this the foot end just in case).
Can also cut a notch in the 2x4 to keep the suspension from falling off.
Adding a taught-line (just a plain old extra piece of rope tied as a ridge line) will keep the 2x4 upright if you want to keep it there for a long period of time without the hammock.
Check out this video of some light-weight ground anchors I was working on:

To make the above easier to understand, I posted what I consider my worst drawing ever.
I do however hope it helps
thanks, i was just looking at those anchors.

I wish I had even one tree on my property. 4 acres of sage brush that is only 2 feet tall just won't cut it to hang from
