Nice! I was just thinking about building something similar that actually goes into the receiver.. maybe when I get a few minutes I'll whip something up.

    Exclamation **warning**

this should be OBVIOUS ....BUT... I know a guy who tied off his safety harness to his truck while roofing. (Didn't bring the ground anchor and no trees) Another guy in the crew jumped in said truck and went to the store for more roofing nails. I shouldn't need to say the end result.
Moral of the story, make sure the keys are in the hammockers pocket. Nothing worse than being dragged down the lawn for a bit if someone isn't paying attention.

    Otherwise, great backwoods engineering!

Yes.. couldnt work for more than 6 months. Luckily he was able to un-clip and "only" fell from the two story roof. He was fortunate enough not to be slung off the roof at 20MPH and pulled across the yard. That may have killed him. Busted arm, some ribs, and both ankles. Otherwise very lucky.

Thanks for the thread. I tried this myself this weekend at Kissimmee Prarie Preserve State Park. When I got out there, I figured out that I probably didn't HAVE to do this, but I also didn't really want to hang from the other available palm tree, and I wanted to try out this rig for future reference. Here's how it turned out:

Ratchet straps latched to the truck bed.

Ratchet straps latched to the top of the pole. Just used the open biner on the pole. The only concern was that it would slip off but it had no issues at all. From top to bottom, you see the Hammock line, the tarp line, and the extra ridgeline as mentioned below.

The pole wanted to move around on the ball of the hitch a little too much for my liking, so I made another ridgeline that went directly from the pole to the tree. I had two extra whoopie slings so I just tied them together in the same way that the whoopie is tied to my HH. Not nearly enough weight there to be dangerous at any rate.

I like the idea! Could a turtle dog stand be incorporated? Be nice to hang 90° from the truck when waiting in line to get in the refuge
