    One Tree/One Truck Hang

As evidenced by numerous threads in the subject, there are many ways to skin this cat. Here's mine.

A 48" piece of 2" black iron pipe rests over the 2" ball on the receiver hitch. The pipe is supported at the top with two ratchet straps, while the Speer is hung from the hook from an old ratchet strap.

Ordinarily, I would anchor the support straps to hard points in the bed of the truck, but in this case, I wanted to illustrate what I consider to be the best way to take the horizontal load of the hammock on vehicles other than trucks. The straps are passed through the open back doors and hooked to each other. The straps are then snugged up, and the doors are closed. This is a very strong arrangement, and will not damage the vehicle.

Now we're talkin! I've been tossin ideas around on how to get a car/tree setup to work with my truck. This looks like it'll work out great...might have to snag this idea and try it out!

Gargoyle raised a good point: he was concerned that one of the hooks could pop off of the pipe, and possibly slingshot the ratchet through the back glass.

I went out and played with it, and this only happens if the angle of pull is above the horizontal. I have no idea if there is enough rebound in polyester strap to make this a realistic possibility, and have no plans to find out. Here's the fix...a continuous loop of 1/8" Amsteel girth hitched to the pipe.

This is where I would rather use the carabiner style hooks at the end of the ratchet strap. No chance of coming lose when clipped into a loop of some sort.

What about attaching the other end of the strap to the metal brackets that tend to be at the bottom 4 corners of a pick up bed designed to strap stuff down? Or is that not something every truck has?
