A smaller tarp for a diagonal pitch

    Hey guys,

ATM I'm using the DD 3m by 3m tarp that came with my hammock but for the weather we get here in Scotland it seems to be overkill for most circumstances. It's way too big to pitch diagonally, too and takes up a fair whack of space unless I wrap it tight with webbing.

I'd like something a bit more packable and fits the hammock size much like my friends' Hennessy. Can anyone recommend me a 2.5m by 2.5m (~8' by 8') or suggest something that'll fit the bill (not even considered 'cut corner' tarps, or hex-tarps or whatever they're called!) . Muted colours prefered (or DMP).

    Cheers!

/e: Another question if someone can help - what sizes are ponchos when laid flat? If I can find a square cut poncho (a lot seem to be sort of rectangle?) maybe that'd do the trick just as good as well as being a poncho for when I'm not swinging! But the only ones with a 3m diagonal is the golite. Any surplus ponchos of decent size?

You could check with any number of tarp makers...Gargoyle, Warbonnet, Maccat, JacksRBetter, Backwoods Daydreamer just to name a few. They have them small and large. The materials they use are lighter and compact smaller than your 3X3 as well.

Funny- I LIKE to pitch my DD tarp on the diagonal... you do need trees a pretty fair distance apart to make this happen tho.

I wanted something lighter for backpacking though, so I went here http://hennessyhammock.com/catalogue.html#cat and got this "ASYM 30D SILNYLON RAINFLY"

It's a little on the small side, and you have to pitch it close to your hammock AND sleep on the correct diagonal to really get ok coverage... but it's cheap and light!

    Here's the dimensions they list:
    Canopy dimensions: - a parallelogram with - long side = 92" -
    short side = 65" -
    long diagonal = 122" -
    short diagonal = 105"
according to HH, 8 1/4 ounces.

wisenber, cheers I'll have a good scout around - only recognize half those names so plenty to drool over I'm sure

Festus, tbh I've not used a pair of tries wide enough to pitch the DD tarp diagonally since I got it. I'm going solo camping this weekend so I'll see about giving it a shot

Looks good! I'll try this weekend and snap a pic if I remember

I think I might be best off with a surplus tarp. Been looking at the Dannish (M90 is it?) and flecktarn tarps, tho obviously the DPM ones are the cheapest here in the UK.
