Wow! Im late coming into this post... Id donate if still needed, but it looks like the HF community came out in spades! Great group!
I'm late getting in on things, too, but Mac, if ya PM me an address, I have a spare pair of cinch buckles to chip in. Plus $20 or so. Title it Hammock fixin' so I don't automaticly delete it. The nice thing about this site is all the things ya learn. That Sail patch stuff, f'rinstance. I de-masted my ice boat sailing in too high wind and ran over the sail cutting a hole in it, and broke the clear plastic window in one of the other ice boat sails. That stuff's just the ticket. Gotta back up and print that out so as not to forget it. Finding out about that is worth pitching in some for a good cause. I totally agree with leaving the repaired hammock out as bait and burn the bastid's arse ! Sounds like this kid needs to get the board of education applied forcefully.
As the rule here is 'If you don't have pics, it didn't happen" I finally have photos of the damage. I also repaired it today, so took pics of that too.
In the first one you can see the big tear & one of the small cuts.
The rest are the repairs & the finishing. I fixed it today at Dress rehearsal at the Ohio Ren Fest.
After letting it sit on the drive home (about 1.5 hrs) The tape was nearly invisible. Sorry, not enough light for pic, & the flash just wouldn't do it good enough with the dark material.

Great job guys. I've been off the forums for quite some time and this is the first post I've read.
This is, without a doubt, a strange and wonderful place. It is good to be home again.
Let me know if I can contribute in any way.

I want to thank all who have posted & who donated! Seriously I am overwhelmed! I think it is time to close this thread though. For those who still want to donate, please, there are enough of us out there who may be in a similar crisis in the future, set the money aside (I will) to help other hangers in need.
Update on the repairs: I spent last night in the hammock, the large cut / tear spread about 1/8" with one layer on the outside. I have promised at least 3" to another hanger with a burn hole, but that leaves me with 7" to put a layer on the inside, & I feel that will totally fix the problem. On examination yesterday, I noticed that the inside is slightly discolored & feels,,,,,,, Odd. My conclusion is that the glue on the tape has totally bonded with (& through) the fabric of the hammock. My theory is this is a permanent bond. I am going to add the inner layer to strengthen the tape & reduce the stretch factor, which is about 2 x the fabric, my thoughts are with 2 layers, the stretch will be equal.
The smaller cuts are mostly unchanged, so may cover the inside with duct tape "Just because".
