I'm a huge fan of a design that allows for no seams, no seams to sew, no seams to seal, well at least all the seams can be hidden under grosgrain at the edges , ... I may need to go get some 2" grosgrain... seriously I appreciate eliminating a source of leaks or separation K.I.S.S.

Looks like a Backwoods Daydreamer Fair Weather Friend Tarp.

I just finished one similar to that last night.

I don't hem the edges, only 1" grossgrain. The only seams are at the 4 reinforcement patches and I didn't seal them.

Why not hem the edges? Grosgrain contributes about 2 oz, which is a significant portion of the total for a tarp that will weigh only 8 oz.

    How manyt yards of Silylon

So this design requires 3.6 yards of silnylon to make (round up to 4 because stuff happens, and most places make you order in whole yard increments)

This is based on the 11' (132") diagonal ridgeline, and the 62" wide material. If you treat those as the sides of a right triangle and solve for the missing side, it should be the length of uncut silnylon required 116.5 " (3.24 yards)

I'd really love to see one pitched tight, to know if the "slightly loose rigeline" would bother me at all... another benifit of having no rigeline-seam
( beyond ease of construction and seam sealing) is the weight...

That left a wedge at each end of the 62" fabric that needed to be removed to make the parallelogram from the original rectangle.

Just my guess. I'm open to correction.

Edited to add that Mac said it better.

Laziness. I can bind a tarp VERY quickly with a binder attachment. The binder attachment works much more consistently than my hemmer attachment with less fuss. Also, I buy grossgrain by the pound and have LOTS of it.

If you're a drum tight pitch kind of person, the ridgeline will likely bother you.

Due to the bias and slight cat cut, the sides remain tight regardless of what the ridgeline does.

Although tarp above the ridgeline looks better just sitting there, there is not much difference in the tightness of the tarp along the RL.

Those are some nice looking tarps. Did the polyester one flop less than the nylon one?

They were pretty close to the same, but I think I could've got the nylon tarp a little tighter if it wasn't about the same length as my hammock stand. I couldn't stretch it out and shoot the photo at the same time.

I'm happy with them & hope to take them both out on a Boy Scout campout later this month.
