That looks like the ticket to me.....not nearly as long and heavy as the Prarie Travois.
Get the kinks worked out and you know I'm ready for BB again.

I did however like your explanation. This is an interesting stand as well. I could easily see that the lines at the top were under tension with this design. I found it interesting that the line on the left going down to the lower part of the stand went slack. Would there be a benefit to being able to tighten this line? Might help with the rigidity without having to tighten the top line as much. Might not.
    Otter,
My mistake. Thanks for clearing that up. Mac was certainly right to move this to a separate thread.

The slack line on the left is extraneous, not part of the tensegrity structure. I used extra long whoopie slings for all the tendons so I could experiment with different configurations with numbers of struts, length of struts, etc. The line in question is the unused end of the whoopie sling, so it could have been cut off.

That is pretty cool...taking a tensegrity structure on applying it to our purposes. It would be really great if it is guaranteed that camp-mates didn't snore.

This is a WV Dave creation! He suggested it to me at MAHHA, and he is the only person on earth who has built one!

I'm working on materials, fittings and coverings. WV made his using steel; I hope that is the last one made with steel. I am going to make one with the big bamboo from the Prairie Travois, another using military surplus synthetic sectional antennae poles, and another using 10' aluminum pipe. Depending on the price, I may soon have one using sectional carbon fiber struts.

Come on out of the box, Dutch! Find a windsurfer junkyard, and grab some masts!

I was going to set the record straight, myself, but I'm glad you outed him first.
