For a simple solution you could always buy some amsteel and make a loop using a double fisherman's knot. The downside is once the knots are made and you put weight in the hammock, the knots become extremely tight and are virtually impossible to undo without potentially damaging the rope (in my experience anyways).

The Chain Links are spliced and carry nearly 100% of the strenght of the amsteel (way, way more then any hanger would ever be able to come close to) in strenght. The splice is secured with some stitching that will prevent them from coming undone easily. It would take a lot of work to undo them without messing up the braid of the amsteel. They are not rated to 500 pounds- just a load test that I did with them. They are in use by some of the biggest hangers out there and yes you should check out the video I did on them when I introduced them, the splice is very secure and the stitching that is put in is just to prevent accidental misuse, that might cause the splice to back out when not under load. The suspension extension would not be as well suited for this sort of task. The fixed eyes are very small and while you could girth hitch the hammock with one end the small eye size would make hitching to the rings nearly impossible. As well the rings would not likely lay flat to each other and hence would not grip the webbing securely.

Yeah I forgot Paul makes his chain links a little differently than other's I have seen. I was able to take Opie's loop apart and put it back together easily.

    jons:
As one of the mentioned "HEAVYWEIGHT" hangers out here in hammockland I will whole heartedly endorse the AHE Chainlink and CB device. I have them on two of my hammocks right now and they have yet to "let me down" so to speak!!!!!! As a matter of fact they are both on ENO DN's and were as easy to replace as everyone has said they are. When Paul is able to re-stock this item I will be ordering another couple of set for my CJH NX-200 and other friends hammocks. If you haven't figured it out by now, i really like this suspension mod for a hammock.

Paul: hurry up, I got money burning a whole in my pocket!!!!!!!!

Paul, just watched your chain link video, holy crap! Thats pretty strong, and honestly I would of died if you would of fell. That would of been one of those times that after you stopped crying you would have to laugh at yourself, been there done that, lol.
