[QUOTE=Raul Perez;287531]Jon check out the Gossamergear thinlight pad wide 1/4" thick. wide enough for hammock camping, light weight, and I got it down to 50* easy on a late winter day hike. Took a nap and it was fine as can be.

Buddy of mine used it on our section hike on the Appalachian Trail early June and he was fine no problems.[/QUO

I was wondering what the R value was for that pad and I was able to find some specs form another web site. The Manufactures website didnt state any R values so I'm not sure how accurate this info is.

    Specs:Gossamer Gear ThinLight 1/8"
    Weight: 1.9 - 2.1 oz (54 - 60 g)
    Dimensions: 19.5 x 59 x 1/8 in (50 x 150 x .318 cm)
    R-value: ~.45

The Z lite specs: for small
    Weight: 10 oz.
    Width: 20 in
    Length: 51 in
    Rolled Size: 20 x 4 x 5 in
    Thickness: 0.75 in / 2 cm
    R-Value: 2.2
Foam type: Egg-crate molded Fill Material

It does have a lot more weight but the R value is much greater and I may be even to trip it up some I dont really know.

You need the 1/4" wide so the specs will be a bit different.

I'm not sure what "R value" is.

The Z is 6 times thicker and 5 times heavier ( though 8" shorter) than the GG. Probably if it was as long it would also be 6 times heavier. 5 times the GG's .45 R value is 2.25 and 6 times is 2.7 r value. So, the extra weight and thickness pretty well account for the extra r value.

But, you would have to find a way to stack the GG's ( or just buy a thicker GG) to get the increased in R value of the Z. One thing to keep in mind: there was some discussion a few years back that a egg crate or ridged surface(as in TR RidgeRest) might not be fully efficient in a hammock, not quite a match for a solid pad of same thickness.

    Z-Light Review

I wrote a review of the z-light a little while back (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=18216) I have used it since when ever nightime temps were over 45 degrees.

Thanks I'll check it out. Do you have a video of it on the tube?

Thanks Billy. Thats a really good point to bring up, as far as the egg crate vs.
