Cant find Sleeping mat rvalue comparison table?

    Hey guys,

I have a mate borrowing a hammock for a hike and he will be using a pad ( I use a JRB and IX UQs). I would like to see which pad/mat would suit him the best for the hike ( in two days).
I once saw a great thread on pads/mats and a link to R value or temp ratings table or chart for differnt types of pads.
I for the life of me cannot find it anywhere and I am very frustrated!! haha

Can anyone point me in the right direction pleaeeeeeeeese?

Would it also be possible to make it a sticky in the bottom insulation-> pads section?

    Thanks guys

    Dave

It used to be on Ed Speer's website, but since he discontinued the SPE it is no longer listed. Roughly speaking, each 1/4" of CCF will provide an R1. And R1 is about 10°F of insulation. So an uninsulated hammock with a 1/4" CCF pad will keep you warm to about 60°F.

Soooo..if you want to keep warm down to 0°C (32°F), you will need to overcome 40°F of cold (70-40=30). 40 degrees of insulation will take about an R4. 1/4"=R1 means that you will need about 1" of CCF to make 30°F.

Outside of CCF, other inflatable pads and such should have their R value listed in the product info. Don't forget that you will also need a wider pad to cover hips and shoulders as well.

That would be the chart I was trying to recall.
Thanks for posting it Youngblood. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has used it numerous times.

I have a link to your Hammock Camping Newsletter from Jan 2006 where I first saw this chart...the link no longer works so I'm glad you posted here!
