Always nice to hear the pipes ,,,at a distance. Allot of great plaid,, cool walking stick and nice quiet hang. Sounds like a good weekend.

    DUDE!!

You got to see / hear / feel Albannach! Lucky you!

For those that don't know, What you see on Mac's video is about 0.0001% of the energy this band put's out! And I'm being generous, very generous. The Ohio Ren fest is 35 acres, you can hear them CLEARLY all over the site. Thankfully they are coming back this year. If you are not moved by Albannach, you is dead, or nearly so.

    Oh, nice campsite too.

When will they be at the Ohio Ren Fest?

OK according to the Albannach website a few months ago, it was every weekend. UM, now they are "elsewhere" the weeks of ORF. Last year they were "Emergency fill in" for one weekend (Oct 24 & 25) & were a big hit.

I'm bummed now. I will talk to ORF director next time I see him & ask "Whahappened?"

Sorry I got your hopes up! Mine are dashed also.

I go back to the MacDuff clan on my moms side. My wife is Irish (Carden)
Maybe I can talk her into going some year.
    I've always liked the pipes.

Last time we were at GMHG, we saw Off Kilter. They were great, especially on Saturday night. They did the best rock & roll...

My wife went to nearby Lees-McRae College in the 70's. Don't know if they still have it but back then they had students there in the summer learning all the bagpipe, drum, dancing ect music stuff. I think they called the Highland School of the Arts or something similar. It was fun seeing everyone in costume and listening to the bagpipes and drums at first but after a few weeks it could get to you.

We use to hike to the top of Grandfather Mt as in the early 70's to watch hang gliders ( Grandfather Mt was a major hang gliding site in the 70's and several early world records were set there). There also a rock cliff face we would climb on Grandfather where we could tie off, eat ripe blueberries in season and wave at the hang gliders as they glided by

Are they still doing the torchlight hike up the mountain? Seems I heard that was a feature of the games at some point..KM

Do they still finish the Grandfather Mountain marathon ("One of America's toughest Marathons") at the games?

I thought about running that one once. The last 13 miles are pretty much straight uphill, but you get to finish by running a lap on the track in front of the gathered festival crowd (assuming they're still gathered by the time you finish).

I'd have to do some monster training to get back up to considering it again.
