"Not to be a smartie but what in the world is the point? If you want to hang when out of town, why not save a bundle of cash and just camp? If you hang in a hotel room and *if* you can find that second contact point, you still run the risk of ripping the snot out of the door or whatever and that'll really cost you."

I agree with anyone who thinks, "why not camp," and I would! But in some cases, a hotel stay is my only option. When I am on road trips with my family, (two kids and wife), they tend to want to sleep in a bed while I want to get a good rest in my hammock. The solution is going to always default to a hotel room stay and my lack of a good rest (grumpy wife and kids could ruin even the best of trips). If there was a way to hang a hammock in a hotel room we all could win! I will be following any updates on this subject very closely, along with trying to come up with a solution on my own. I really hope this thread gets picked back up, I really think that the extended poles might be a good idea in the right direction. Maybe in combination with using a door hinge as an anchor.

Portable stand, such as the Hammeck stand, or a DIY stand such as my BiPod stand

Mine should be able to fit in a duffel bag (I don't have one yet)

I have used my hammock in several rooms. I have used my tree straps to go in the door jamb and around the hinge to secure the hammock on one end and ran my other strap out of a sturdy window frame with the something through it like a toggle on the outside. This was for my daughter only 50lbs. I have also used both the entry door and the bathroom door with the straps over the doors and a toggle through the strap to hold once the door is shut it should hold tight. Just be careful when someone opens the door.

This is how I hang at work.

This is the door to my bunk room

This is the other end, threaded around the window unit.

Yikes...that looks a little .. unsafe to me. The only thing holding the window in place looks like the trim around it with a little bit of caulking and probably just a few nails. Hopefully you don't hang too high off the floor with that setup

It's statements like these that confirm my suspicions about US building standards!
Here in the UK, uPVC double glazing is held in place with 6 - 8" screws, through the steel frame and into the concrete blockwork, at least two fixings on each side and fixings at 600mm centres along the horizontal.

What is more concerning is the wear on the sill... must pad that!

Ya that's better than here. If that was a home built here, that would be shoddy wood trim You just might be safer than than I originally thought.
