Instead of a metal hook over the door, how about a short piece of Amsteel with a knot in it. Just close the door over it. I think I a strong exterior door would hold a person...

As for the second anchor... well? U dunno!

Not to be a smartie but what in the world is the point? If you want to hang when out of town, why not save a bundle of cash and just camp? If you hang in a hotel room and *if* you can find that second contact point, you still run the risk of ripping the snot out of the door or whatever and that'll really cost you.

    Maybe we're overthinking the problem.

If you hang on a door and someone opens it.. ouch...
if it opens outwards and there is a fire and you sleep too heavy... nobody will be able to get in to save your carcass :-)

The door just hit me between the eyes. Metaphorically, of course.

Iīve done this quite a few times, if working late i Copenhagen, i usually go to a freetown(Christiania)and hang my hammock- itīs free, itīs safe and a lot less hassle than checking into a hotel

If you have an extra door with enough of a lip on the top, you could hang something like an Iron Gym on it, and it would more than likely hold you up. If you can safely do pullups on it, it ought to hold you up... The problem here is:
    A. A second hanging point
    B. Getting the Iron Gym Packed,
    and the biggest of all:
    C. Doing pullups on the iron gym puts all the stress in a downward position, in which it was made to hold, exerting a force to the side could possibly make it lose hold, as they are very sensitive.

I doubt it would work, but that's the only (kinda! ) SAFE idea I have. Good luck!

All the other things the hotel and the area give me while I (and my team) are in town for this training are why I don't camp instead. And I'd only hang if I could do it reasonably and without damaging someone else's property.

The second hanging point seems to be the obstacle to each of these ideas. Let's put our thoughts toward a second hanging point (and then, as one poster mentions, we won't need a hotel room; just any old room). If there are no campgrounds around (e.g in a city), or if a buddy says, "hey, you can sleep in my room, but I get the bed...", then it'd be nice to have a simple hotel hanging option.

Second point of hooking: could it be from the entrance door jam to the bathroom door jam? Sometimes, perhaps? Is there an easy way to use the closet bar, maybe where it attaches to the wall (not mid-bar, obviously)? How about room entrance door or jam to the window casing...stretching out all across the room. Or is there some means to tip the bed up on its side, wedge it in the closet or the bathroom so it won't shift, and use it for the inner anchor point. Just fodder for thoughts.

I mean, if prisoners can make a butter knife, rubber band and matchsticks into a pistol, we oughta be able to hang a hammock in a hotel room, for chrissakes. Think, man, think.

You don't need and Iron Gym, all you need is a piece of Amsteel with a knot in it draped over the top of the door, with the door closed. Of course, when the cleaning lady opens the door in the morning...

But speaking of pull-ups, what about those old door-frame pull-up bars that work by friction. You twist them and they extend, causing pressure on the door frame that hold them pretty darn tight. Could you use one of those on a window frame to create the second anchor?
