The idea of a door bracket is a good one (thinking of a "T" shape with the crossbar outside the door, with maybe 4" of purchase on the door/frame) - if put on the hinge side, I would think it would be sturdy enough, at least on the exterior door and maybe for an inside door, depending on framing.

I'm constantly looking for this option. Some of the hotels I stay in in Asia and Indonesia ... are well ... less than what most people will feel comfortable in. Anyway a good hammock would make the stay much more desireable. So far there's been limited opportunity to hang. But one could hope!

I do have an option for our apartment in Nantong that I can't wait to try out next trip there. I'll definitely post photos!

This welder could...the problem is coming up with something strong enough that would still allow the door to close. The steels undoubtedly exist, but they're prolly not available at Homey's.

I'm looking at my doors (no, I didn't sleep in the hotel last night) A few things come to mind:
Clearance- Its tight on the hinge side, which to my knowledge is THE strongest part of the door. I've been on a few commercial construction jobs, installed some doors too. Not all doors are created equal. Some are stout enough, IMO, to take the strain. Some are mounted (another safety concern) securely enough to take the stress.

    But, not all!

Liability issues come to mind. If I saw it on youtube, I'd comment on it as an unsafe practice. Period.

We just got done flipping out on some guy for hanging on ropes on a dead tree...but we entertain the idea of hanging off a hotel door. Kinda Ironic, don't ya think?

    That being said,

Webbing or amsteel will work, as fin proved. Its something we already carry. Toggle your webbing near the top hinge, but outside the door, close the door and it cant go anywhere. I'm thinking a larger toggle would distribute the weight over a larger surface area.

    Hotel management may disagree?

What I've found is there has been no standard on gap or thickness of door in Asia. Then there's the hinge area ... Large gaps to flush and a range of strengths. Oh well it's a new challenge!

Well I'm here and the options for hanging are slim. I didn't get a balcony and this lamp over in the corner wouldn't hold me (I'm guessing). I could possibly use the door for one end like one poster suggested but I can't find another contact point.

There *is* a volleyball court down at the beach and I've thought about going down there and hanging for a bit but I don't think the small time I'd be in the hammock would be worth the hassle.
