I used it last fall and early spring before I had purchased my UQ. It works great as a wind/water/heat shield, but can generate some condensation issues.

Wow. What a great idea. That would be a lot easier to do than sewing up the fabric I bought last night. I have another tarp I picked up. I havn't tried it as a fly yet, but it's a side panel for a pop up canapy. Came with lots of tye outs that I can use as attach points for a fly.

    I'll give it a try.

    Thanks.

    Skeeter thoughts..

    1. I like permethrin as well.

    2. Since skeeters are attracted to CO2 as well as warmth, I wonder if most wouldn't simply be heading toward the no-seum netting? (Just an idle hypothesis with no research to back it up).

mosquitoes bite any bare flesh that touches the material of my HH explorer. i tend to sleep in a jungle sleeping bag so its not a massive problem, but if i stick my arms out when it gets too hot or something like that then i do tend to get nibbled. i just open the sleeping bag out and tuck it under any fleshy bits to avoid this.

I had a friend who camped out in SC on a real rainy, pretty warm night in SC. I think he was in an HH Expedition. He told me the next day his arse looked like it had been used as a pin cushion. The mossies feasted on his bum. I guess they were really hungry to do that!

Permethrin, double layer hammocks, UQs, SSs or pads all solve the problem. An UQ or pad or SS (or some type of)under cover are needed by most folks most of the year. So that should take care of the problem. I bet even a skinny one layer IX UQ would do the trick, but I have not tested the theory.
