does anyone use a whoopie sling to hang their tarp?
does anyone use a whoopie sling to hang their tarp?
i've wondered this myself..... hope to see some responses here
I don't see much benefit for the rigeline. You could put a mini biner on it and either wrap it around the tree or click it to the hammock hugger. I really like the figure 9 for ridgeline and they are lighter then the mini biner. You could make them for the guide outs though. I made a WS out of mason line for that purpose, but in the end the marlin spike hitch won out.

I use a whoopie sling for my tarp. Kind of a whoopie sling/nacrabiner thing. The sling is broken at the adjustable loop so I can get it around the tree and then hook it back together again with the nacarabiner method....I will get some pics of it later on today. I kind of like it because it is pretty fast and I do not need any hardware.

The level on ingenuity on this forum never ceases to amaze me. That is an awesome idea. What do you do for your stopper knot on the one end? I can't imagine a diamond/lanyard knot being used as that requires 2 ends.
I can't wait to see the pictures of this setup.
Cheers

I too await SC pictures....
I tried a whoopie sling once for a RL... The thing about the whoopie is if you pull it tight, there is no play in it to get the constrictor to release.
My tarp suspension and my hammock suspension are one and the same. The ridgeline, whoopies, and tree huggers are attached to the tarp, which goes up first and comes down last. The hammock hangs from the ridgeline. So, yes, I use whoopies and a ridgeline for my tarp, but they also hold the hammock.
i gave it a try. its a double (adjustable loops (figure 8). i cut one loop and put a fixed loop and a washer on it. kind of like a dutch clip for tree. i got 4 ft loop to tarp and 3ft around tree.
it holds tight, but on the next one im making the line after the washer longer so i can feed it through loop and just pull to release.
it was fun to make. now to put loops on the ends of my kayak ropes
