Thats 1 heck of a tie out!!!

Make sure that prusik slips otherwise you could ruin a tie out.

What about having a nacarabiner-prusik? It seems like you could really tighten the prusick and when the time comes to take the tarp down you can just undo the nacarabiner part and adjust the prusik when the load is off.

Opie, you're going to have to comment on this because I've never made a nacarabiner, only seen pics of them here.....so I don't know if the nacarabiner is unable to be released under a load.

Kayak Karl, great thought! I may have to adopt this tarp ridgeline.

I made a UCR for my first homemade ridgleline. The problem is that you have with a UCR is it is easier to loosen and very hard to tighten. So even though it is "adustable"...Its just not practical. I like the small figure 9 much better because you get leverage with the loose end of the rope. The only way to get leverage with a UCR is to have your friend lean the tree in an inch or two if its possible. This is obviously not practical......

It stands for Utility Constrictor Rope. There is tons of information on the topic in the various threads constriction type suspensions.

Essentially it is a line with a fixed loop on one end that is attached to your hammock and that is buried through a shorter piece of line (the constrictor) that has another fixed loop on the end and is attached to your tree huggers most commonly with a toggle and a marlin spike hitch. The advantage is that is uses less line than a whoopie sling and therefore lighter. The slight disadvantage is that the tail end of the constrictor piece needs to be tensioned in some manner otherwise it is very easy for it to slip and lower your to the ground.

    Cheers

    Brian

You can not open the nacrabiner under load.

You can move the prusik... but IMO for tarp cordage, you dont want rock solid guy lines. You want the line to fail/slip before it does damage to your tarp. The 3 wrap prusiks on my guy lines slip between 25 and 30 pounds.
