    guy line tangles :(

    Hi All
I am using the std guy line that came with my neo 9x9 and realised that I would have to change the cord because it just snags on anything at all but the main problem I have is when packing away the tarp it does not matter how I wrap up or tie up the line it always gets tangles and takes ages to set up camp because of it.

How do you others get around this problem?

    Thanks
    Gunn

take my advice, ditch the guy line that came with it,i prefer 55o paracord on the side cords and elastic bungee cord at the tree ends for rapid deployment

    Gunn,
I was really impressed with how Hennessy made pockets on their hex tarp. I'd sew some of those on your tie outs. It's easy to shove the lines in and take them out.

The orange 250 lb spectra Speer sells has been WAY less prone to tangle than the stock HH tarp cord I started with. And if it does tangle, it's about 100 times easier to untangle ( or unknot).

    Tidy lines

I sewed small loops of flat elastic about 1 1/2" diameter, 1/2" wide where each guyline attaches to the tarp. After removing the stakes I fold the lines and slip them into the loops. It holds them organized and untangled.

I also tried velcro- "omnitape" actually- (sold by the Jacks). It works pretty good just tying a 5" strip of the velcro/tape on to each guyline. First method is slightly more convenient, second method doesn't require sewing.

the corner pockets scott mentioned are nice. i added them to my last DIY tarp.
but even w/ the pockets, i wrap the cord around my hand then use the last 12 or 15" of line to lash that together.
and a stiff, light cord like the speer cord is much easier to work w/ than some.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I use your same method except using the last foot to lash the bundle together. That little tip alone was worth logging into the forum today. Thanks

I haven't posted much but follow threads every day. This forum is pure gold for a hammocker. I had a great weekender from Humpback Rocks to Rockfish Gap. Gorgeous weather!

I agree with the Speer's No Tangle guy line. Much less prone to tangling.

I'm going to have to try dblhmmck's suggestion... I think that is slick... make the bundle then slip through the elastic loop rather than lashing with the tail... Saves time and is nice, tidy, and always there....

yeah, i missed that. glad you brought it back up rapt. i may need to give that a try.

a note on the orange line that ed speer sells...
it's nylon coated spectra, very light, very strong, & stiff enough that it is easier to work with.
but ed said that his source is going to discontinue it. don't know why.
maybe they plan to have something similar to replace it.
