I have done some injury to my spine over the years (broke C-2 and crushed (compression fracture in medical terms) T-7). I also suffer from disc degeneration in the lumbar region.

I'm new to hammock camping, but I find the hammock is slightly more comfortable than my bed, and way more comfortable than the ground.

All I've tried so far are single sized nylon hammocks. Perhaps a double sized one would be even better?

I have an issue with a little sciatica...when it is hurting it makes it hard to lay in a hammock. I can't get comfortable no matter what I do.

Now there is a perfect example of how the same solution does not work for everybody.

I was born with my lower spine deformed. I have to be kinda careful, or I either get sciatica, or my back 'goes out'- which can cripple me and take at least two weeks to be able to stand up straight or feel back to normal

I've really noticed the past few years that all hammocks are NOT created equal in the comfort department for me. While I'm only 5ft tall, I really need a longer hammock to be able to lie flat. Flat helps my back stay very happy

That's interesting. Tim, how long is your hammock? Looking for a common thread here.

I'm a tall guy with somewhat hunched posture. Unlike most people my problems are always with the upper back. I now sleep most nights in a hammock at home. I wake up more refreshed and with a straighter back.

Another motivation for using a hammock is my shoulders. In a bed, side sleeping makes them hurt but not in a hammock.
