I just got a strange idea for a double layer/single layer convertible hammock.
Has any one sewn channels into the ends of a hammock then tried making cuts in the channels? I'm thinking that if you whip the hammock through the end channels with the cuts in the channels, the option of weaving your whipping line or suspension through the channel of one layer and then the other and so on would effectively join the two layers together at the whipping.
The reason why the concept sounds interesting to me is that you could have a single double-layer hammock when whipped together or two single layer hammocks if whipped separately. Perhaps a lighter weight fabric combined with a heavier one such as a 1.1/1.7 combo?
I'm not sure what one would need to do to prevent fraying in the cuts in the fabric or if whipping would reduce the fraying.
This project isn't in the hopper yet. I thought I'd get some input to see about any different ideas or forgetting it altogether.
