If you did Velcro around the whole thing it would be lighter than doing a zipper around it.

...but noisier for those late-night nature walks.
Just so you know Velcro tends to be a little grabby on clothes and such, so you might be better off with omni tape?!
Either way, nice lookin DIY, I hope one day to get a machine and start doing some projects that I got in mind!
Dear slowpace,
If you want it to be a real Hennessy clone, you could consider installing a (structural) ridgeline. This can show useful, not only for the netting but also for a reproducible way of hanging the hammock. The ridgeline defines the distance between the ends of the hammock. Remember that the ridgeline is a structural element, which should be strong enough to take on a force similar to the force in the suspension. I hope the diagrams below are helpful.

I found a yard hammock frame someone was throwing away. Perfect for using and testing hammocks. Also some pics.

Looking good.
Time to order some 7/64 Amsteel Blue and make some Whoopie Slings and a RL out of that brother.
Check around for the Hammock Forums discount code to ReddenMarine.. Otherwise, WestMarine can order it to the store (but it's pricier and you still have to pay upfront I think).
