The 13th may be very "doable" for me as well . . . Will need to see my oldest head off to PA for gymnastics camp and my youngest to the grandparents . . . but then I am free.

Swampfox . . . we are starting at Oconee SP on Friday and will be ending at Fish Hatchery Rd on Sunday. Looks like our paths may "potentially" cross Saturday. We have 8 in our group and all 8 are planning to hang. We are looking at Sat night stopping just south of Burrels Ford so that a few can fish in the afternoon. We want to be somewhat away from the road but we should be right off the trail somewhere. Guess it shouldn't be too hard to find a group of 8 hammocks if you are interested. I won't be fishing this time around so swing by if you have a few minutes.

Sounds like a fun trip to Lake Greenwood. I have done a little lake camping in the summer (Devils Fork SP, Jocasse), so it may just be too hot and sweaty for me in August. I still recall (back in my tenting days) laying on my thermorest in my boxers w/ no covers in a pool of my own sweat unable to sleep. I'll take the cold over that any day. If the trip ends up later in the fall I would be interested.

    Hey Muskrat,
I did exactly that hike in the opposite direction three years ago. It's a beautiful hike with lots of Rhododendron and Mtn. Laurel in bloom.
We have some friends coming in to spend the day with us on Saturday.
Depending on when they leave, we may take a late afternoon hike southward.

Know the feeling all too well. James Island County Park last October, 100*, no wind, stagnate air, tenting with the family in a tent with no windows and the fly on due to "possible" rain that never showed . . .

Everyone in my family now has either a HH Exped or a BB !

Although August may still be very hot, I'm willing to give it a shot. Might be going for a dip in the pond at 3:00 am to cool off.

I did a little "exploring" out that way after work one evening last week. The main road you see on the aerial map off of hwy 246 heading towards Goat Island, is Watts Bridge Rd. It dead ends into a boat ramp. I am asking around at work to find out if there is a place nearby we could park. Looking at the aerial map it is the next point to the left of Goat Island. Would be a very short paddle (couple hundred yards maybe)
