I use polyester exclusively these days. I never strayed much into the world of nylon webbing beyond confirming that it is a horrible strap material for our application. Polypro is fine and certainly usable. I do find that it stretches more than I'd like, but it's within tolerance and not really that bad. It is lighter! The polyester just had the best combination for me and my uses. I do have to order it since I can't find it reliably locally, but once you start ordering by the roll the cost comes down low enough that shipping isn't that big of a factor.

charley- 2" between the knots is pretty mild and is easily corrected by getting in the hammock for a few minutes, then re-tightening your rig. Call it part of the learning curve and go conquer it.
    Trust nobody!

I have gone back to the polyester webbing straps I got from quest. They are lighter and stretch less than the nylon. I just tied a loop in one end. I think I got the stretch mostly out of them. Now if they would stop making that loud cracking noise when I move.

i was planning on ordering a bunch of polypro webbing from quest.
unless im missing something, quest doesnt have polyester webbing, at least not right now.
my question now is do i get the medium weight or the heavy weight??

the medium is half the price, so if thats all i need, it saves alot of $$
    any advice

Dalton Check SPEER for POLYESTER web.
I bought 1 inch white on clearance sale. It is a terrific hugger.
Speer has other color on his site. Pretty inexpensive. Top notch webbing here.

AHE, pgibson here on HF has webbing he sells. Lots of types.

thanks tom. i didnt think to check speer.
it seems like the polyester is the best choice, but polypros not far behind,
i need 240ft. so im looking for the cheapest, (expensive wise) i can get.
if all i need is the polypro medium weight then its only 28 bucks for all of it.
but if i need to get the polypro heavy weight its twice as much, which is only a little cheaper than the polyester- so i might as well spend a little extra and get the better.

quest doesnt have weight limits on the webbing, just medium or heavy so i dont know which i need

It may be worth calling quest before ordering to see if they can 1. give you some weight ratings. Not all polypro is strong enough. And 2. if they will send you samples. If that will not work send me a PM I might be able to work something on a full roll price at 100 yards, you are not that far from that much.

Pan, I checked the Speer website again and he's selling polyester webbing.

There seems to be much confusion between polyester and polypropylene (at least on my part) so here's a link to Strapworks.com's Standard Webbing Reference Chart, showing comparisons between polypropylene, nylon, and polyester:

    https://www.strapworks.com/Articles.asp?ID=144

    Regarding polypropylene v. polyester:

    - polypro is less expensive
    - polyest is stronger
    - polyest is more abrasion resistant
    - polypro is more resistant to acids and bases (in case you're into leaving your straps stewing in a puddle with pine needles or on the ground in alkalai flats -- if you can find a tree in an alkalai flat)
    - polypro is more resistant to oils (in case you set up your hammock after slathering yourself in sunscreen)
    - polypro floats (in case you hang under water).

From what I've gleaned from this thread, polypro has the additional advantage of being lighter.

It would be helpful if webbing purveyors provided complete specs for each product.

I use polypropylene rope in my canoe because it floats and it's simple to splice.
