    Brilliance, saved 600 cu in

While packing my tent away from a trip I couldn't hang, I had a stroke of genius! I use an Osprey Atmos and after loading the hammock, quilt, and fly it was pretty much half full. I kicked around bumping up to a slightly larger pack. But today I solved the issue, using the tent sack I fit the hammock, fly and quilt into the sack which will strap nicely to the outside of the pack. I picked up 600 cubic inches of space, saved a couple of bucks and impressed myself with the brilliance.

Had to share. Hoping it is an original thread. thanks. scrapes

Very nice, one word of caution you mentioned that you put your quilt in there, be care full to keep it dry!!! Especially on the outside of the pack, if you have done this or can do it, great, but I keep all things meant to keep me warm in dry sack's in the pack, and I use a pack cover too, so I have like double coverage to keep it all dry!!!

Yea you could get that quilt wet. take a trash compactor bag, and cut off all the excess material(they are huge).

Yea I keep the quilt in a small Sea to Summit dry sack just for that reason. I'm tickled pink with this revelation!

    thanks

That is exactly what I did, which resulted in the Molly Mac Pack. Now it's all strapped to the outside of the pack!

To strap three stuff sacks to the outside of the Osprey pack, I used a biner to attach the middle of a daisy chain to the handle loop. With two more biners, I attached the ends of the daisy chain to the bedroll tie loops at the bottom of the pack. That gave me an inverted V ladder of daisy chain loops, to which I attached three stuff sacks using cinch straps.

To get into the pack, I released the biner at the top, and the stack fell away, without dumping the load of stuff sacks.

Just make sure you aren't compressing down bags/quilts that much beyond a normal stuff sack. It remembers being compressed too far.

Just noticed that you're also from NJ.

Maybe someday we will get together and have a Guinness. Brilliant!
