    Thank-you Amish.

This is probably a DIY post but everyone else maybe interested as well.

Many members here have discussed in how wal-mart is phasing out its fabric departments throughout North America but during a recent trip across the border to grab some 1.50/yard material in Ogdensburg NY, I discovered this is not always the case. The wally world in Ogdensburg is keeping its fabric store open apparently due to demand from the Amish and Mennonite communities in Lawrence County. During my talk with the sales clerk, I was told that some Amish like ripstop nylon to line blankets used in the carriages during the winter! Go figure!

In the meantime if any of my fellow Canadian hammockers are looking for material and find themselves zipping along the 401 in Ontario, then take a hop across the border at Prescott to Ogdensburg and help keep this fabric department going.

As for you other hammockers, are any of you finding that traditional communities are helping to maintain access to inexpensive fabrics?

The Amish may find themselves a niche in making underquilts when our cottage industries become overwhelmed...

There are quite a few Amish here in Lancasrer County PA. I am hoping it keeps the fabric dept open. They are remodeling and it doesn't look good.

That seems to be also true in my local Walmart for exactly the same reason.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Not quite the experience here in Ohio's Amish country.
The Wooster (Wayne County) Wal-mart still has a small fabric department.
The Millersburg (Holmes County) Wal-mart no longer has one.
