    dual ridge lines

Sir Whitewolf and I were talking about different methods of pitching my 11 x 10 JRB tarp. I mentioned wanting to try dual ridgelines, but at the time figured the best method for doing so would be to have 2 trees beside each other on either end of the tarp.

But, after coming home I had another idea.

The idea is a collapsible spreader bar, similar to that of the JRB BMBH. It's just a concept at the moment. I'm looking for ideas what to use as the spreader bar. The weight saving method would be to find a trail stick to notch out on either end after cutting it down to length.

I need ideas for securing the spreader bar to keep it from sliding along the ridge line. Any ideas on how to do this without abrading the ridgeline (2mm dyneema)?

Do you mean like a baker hut, or some sort of A-frame with a flat top?

Prussik a soft shackle on the ridgeline, and into a notch on the end of the spreaderbar. That way you will protect your ridgeline from chafe, and be able to adjust the position of the spreader.

You'll have to forgive me here, but I can't picture that in my head. Have you got a visible example?

Grizz turned me onto quest outfitters for Easton spreaders. They are really tent poles, but you can buy the individual section along with the end pieces. Many sizes to choose from.

I may have to try this now that I have bridge hammocks.

    No... sorry!

Suppose you had a loop at just the right places on the ridgelines, at the points where the spreader bars attach. If each end of the bars had a notch, you would simple put the notches in the loops.

    Clear as mud?

So, in a rain, you want a growing pool of water with no drainage right above you and your gear in a hammock? I've seen this in a poorly designed tent I used to own.

I can visualize a funny video making the rounds from this idea!

    .
My visualization of this set-up is still using the tarps ridge line for attachment, but having a spreader bar inserted at two points below the ridge tie out. Say 12" down from the ridge tie out. I think this would still allow the RL to form a catenary line and allow water to flow off.

    My thoughts, too.

Maybe I don't have the big picture, though.
