what do i have? amsteel or amsteel blue?

i ordered what i was told was 1/8" amsteel BLUE but i think i may have received normal amsteel. i had it picked up so i wasn't there to check the discription on the spool.

it is light gray in colour and when i measure the circumference it is 14mm or 17/32". i was told that 1/8" would have a circumference of 9mm.

it is hard to measure the width of it because it is kinda square/ rectangular from being wound on the spool so it has a narrow and wide side.

Pretty sure you can't get Amsteel smaller than 1/4" (Amsteel blue goes down to 7/64). So, if you did get Amsteel by accident, it's rated at a bit over 3 tons. That's a hell of a whoopie. How much did you pay for it and where?

They used to sell Amsteel in both 7/64" and 1/8". It was gray. Amsteel blue used to refer to a different coating (that was blue (and perhaps some pre-stretch technology applied to the fibers )) but it was only somewhat stronger than the old Amsteel. Don't worry about what you got; it's all stronger than it needs to be, and it splices the same. Just use it.

Just for giggles, the 3 5/8" Amsteel has a MINIMUM breaking strength of 828,000 lbs (376,000kg).

The biggest I saw on Redden Marine's site was 1 1/2" with Minimum strength of 158,000 lbs. It was "only" $19.52 per foot and weighs just a bit over 1/2 lb per foot.

Here's the specs off of Samson's website for Amsteel and Amsteel Blue. I'm guessing you have Amsteel in grey but it sure isn't the 1/8" you ordered. I don't see where Amsteel Blue is made in 1/8". I'm thinking an exchange is in order unless you want to keep what you have to pull stuck bulldozers out of the mud

You could turn the eiffel tower upside down and hang it with one 8" amsteel blue line on each of the four legs.

7'' diameter whoopies, that would be a sight. When you're done sleeping the rope could be used to the haul the tree off to the mill...

At over 800,000 lbs strength, you could haul the mill to the trees!!!
