Of course it did not make sense.

1.) In English, there is a stack of three 2' thick 6"square PT Gorilla glued and deck screwed together (called the pole stack).
2.) On two of the opposing sides of the pole stack there is a 5 feet long 2" X 4" with a 2" side down that is glued and deck screwed to the pole stack
3.) The other end of both 5 foot 2" X 4" boards are attached (glued and screwed) with a shorter piece of 2" X 4" closing the opening which makes a carrying handle as well as strengthens this one half of the base.
4.) An other piece of 2" X 4" is added as an other stiffener between the two 5' 2"X4" mid way between the handle and the pole stack
5.) Make the other 1/2 of this base the same way
6.) Grind off the bottom of the hinge pin on TWO 4" X 6" barn door hinges so the pin can be removed.
7.) Align the two base half sections and put One normal screw in each hinge on each side of the handle end of the left half ONLY of the base so it will line up about where the opposing hinge will be placed on the right side half of the base.
8.) I think you know the rest just use longer screws orf even better, Bolts to the remainder of the hinges holes.
9.) For the perpendicular feet mount then under one of the base 2" X 4" farly snugly with a countersunk screw; but not so tight that the board can't be turned paralell wity the 1" X 4" base.
10.) Use one half of an old style manual door cross bolt lock mounted vertically on the inside of the base 2"X4" so the bolt will drop down into a hole on the foot board to hold the board either perpendicular or parallel as required. This way no tools required for assemble/disassembly.
11.) Another game day, hammock based and vehicle based decision is determining the necessary length of and/or the number of the base sections so to decrease the required length of the poles and make the entire stand possibly back seat or trunk size.

Got to go. Sorry for the pain of the previous post.
    I hope this was helpful.

@SSGHawk. Can you make a much more simpler description/ post pics/ make a video of what you did/ post the materials that you used? I have absolutely NO experience with wood or tools or anything but want to make this because it would be SICK to set it up in my dorm. I love hammock camping but am not going to spend the money to get material for a project I don't understand how to do. (Keep in mind I am a 240 lb dude)

Awesome!...Rabbit Ear Hanger, Sub surface holes for hammock support poles!!!
Now, I offer another idea = People have bike racks/steps/cooler racks that go into trailer hitch receivers...How about a welder make a hammock support system for your hitch receiver? Or even just one so you can back the car up to ONE tree and use the hitch.

And let us remember the "rabbit ears for the back of your pick-up truck" Asymetric of course, using the "ladder rack holes" in the frame...

So to all you engineers out there....I need help.

I have attached some pictures to view how I am trying to make this design work.

    But here are some facts.

I use 1-3/4" Od Emt conduit pipe.
Put holes in with 2" bit...thinking the pipe wouldn't fit after the wood dried.
    Using a treated 4x4x10' lumber
When I applied my 275lbs in I had a pipe bend while inside the wood....is the slop creating this problem

So the fix that I tried in the picture...didn't work.

I need some help and ideas guys and gals...I don't want to scrap this idea. But I'm all ears as to what y'all think is a better, cost effective design I'd consider scrapping this.

    I need help.

You may want to try rgs (ridged galvanized steel) conduit or Schedule 80 pipe instead of the emt. It is a good bit heavier.

I think this design is going to need scrapped. Any other cost effective thought on design of this stan or another one?
