Pads and Moisture

I am currently using a thermarest pad to supplement my sleeping set up...I have a double layer switchback and a big Agnes sleeping bag....I am wanting to switch to a top quilt and underquilt in the future but right now the wallet doesnt allow that...
I sleep well wtih my current set up, but am curious how folks pack their pads either onto or in their packs when it rains....cane these pads get wet? I know some are closed cell so they wont absorb water, but they still will be wet when you get to camp if you dont protect them?
i am currently putting in a dry sack adn strapping onto the outside of my pack..
What do yall do to keep pads dry?

Where to pack it depends on the size of pad. If it's a partial pad, it can be either folded & placed inside the pack against your back or, rolled & placed inside the pack around the perimeter with all your other gear stuffed inside the "tube."

If it is a full size hammock pad like 30"x72", your only choice is outside the pack. Just shake it & use a microfiber towel to dry it. The CCF will not absorb any water.

I've put CCF pads inside my pack, rolled up...then let it unroll and stuff everything down the middle. I use frameless packs, so this gives it structure.

Now I use a half-length CCF on a Gossamer Gear pack (the Murmur and the Mariposa Plus), which has an outer pocket for the pad to act as a frame. It's a pretty cool setup. Since I use a Packa, the pad doesn't get wet in the rain.

I also have a frameless GOLITE pack and roll my 3/4 length, 1/4" thick GG pad like a tube inside my pack giving it more shape . stuff everything inside and the pad seams to take up no space and it stays dry.

What is a good Pad to start out with?

I do what the others say as well. Put the pad inside pack and let it expand till it is a tube into which everything else goes.

When going no uq, the pad I like is a torso length Thermarest (XS Prolite) combined if needed with a 1/8" ccf for the lower legs. Packs small (~4 x 9") and light (~8 oz). Compact and stuffed into a silnylon sac allows to stash wherever. ccf at ~60" x20" x1/8" packs small and light lashed somewhere to the outside of the pack.
