    The Hammockgear Wanderlust package with insulation is a very good place to start. https://hammockgear.com/hammock-camping-kits/

    As Shug knows, one only needs to unzip the Mummy/Rectangular sleeping bag to use as a top quilt. Having only sleeping bags in my hang gear, there is a possibility for the zipper hardware to gouge into the hammock fabric, so tossing and turning 'might' become an issue.

    @wahowad,

    Welcome to this addiction.

    Watch anything Shug.

    Read at least one of Derek Hansens Ultimate Hang books. He also has them online. Great illustrations that explain everything.

    Be patient.

    Lastly enjoy the ride.

    I went this way because then I knew all the things would work together, and I didn’t have to learn a single knot. (NOT ONE!). I had used hammocks before, but would always get caught up on the underquilt or something. This pulled everything together. Your mileage may vary. (Plus, I got to pick the colors of components!)

    This is a great option.

    I would second the suggestion of going to a local hammock hang, as the friendly hammock folks will let you try out their hammocks in most cases.

    Lastly, You really need to establish what works for you between a gathered end and bridge and what brand. I am a back sleeper and prefer the bridge hammock, I have and use a Warbonnet Ridge runner and have for maybe 10 years or so, I have tried about 6 brands of hammocks and several styles, it took me years to figure it out, but I would say the most important thing is what hammock fits and feels right to you, no way to know without trying them out.

    Best of luck!
