I just used my new 40F Trail Winder from Jared at Simply Light Designs for two nights in northern Minnesota. I stacked it with my more "traditional" CRO 20F UQ. I gotta say, it worked really well, and is so much easier than trying to stack two regular underquilts. Nice and toasty at 9F.
If you're looking to add some winter warmth I definitely would look into this option. Jared does great work, and as far as cottage vendors goes is incredibly fast.

I also stack the TW in the winter. Mine is a 20° that I put a down 40° on the outside of. If it's going to be windy I'll then add an UQP over that.

TW on the outside. I found the way it's designed it held my more traditional UQ in place really nicely.
I've pondered the "inside or outside" question myself. There are arguments for each, and probably no objectively "better" option.
With the TW on the outside, you get the benefit of it's wind/moisture blocking, but unless you hang it loosely, you could compress the inner quilt to the point that it's insulation is less effective.
With the TW on the inside, you might still need another layer (UP protector) on the outside if there's wind or blown precipitation. Also, it's possible the outer (assuming a "standard" style UQ, like a HG Incubator) will shift around.
I guess it comes down to trying it yourself to see which works better with your specific quilts and your hammock.
Was this an Asym or full width TW? I really like the material choice of the TW but with an asym on the outside I get the feeling it'd be acting as more of an UQP than a second layer.
