Post New to Hammock Camping - Florida!

    Hi all,

Super excited to have found this forum and hope to meet some of you soon. I am just getting started hammock camping and am in Southeast Florida (Palm Beach County). I am hoping to do a couple one night trips in the area to test things out, before venturing out further.

I have seen some stuff about it being illegal to hang from trees in State Parks, I want to educate myself as much as possible (and avoid breaking any rules!) but am struggling to find resources online.

Any recommendations for hammock camping spots in South Florida? All other advice for a newbie also greatly appreciated

As far as I know, it is not illegal in the Great State of Florida to hang a hammock in a state park. Welcome to the forum from North Florida.

Welcome from Texas! I lived in the Orlando area for a number of years - hope you have a bug net!
I do not believe it is against the rules to hang from trees in Florida state parks. Some probably have better trees than others, and some may have special rules. The state park website has it listed in the FAQ:

    1. What are the different ways that you can stay overnight in Florida State Parks?

Florida's state parks offer multiple ways to stay in our parks overnight and enjoy the great outdoors:

Camping in a tent, RV, travel trailer, pop-up camper, fifth wheel, motor home, school bus camper, truck camper or hammock, on a campsite where you have power/water and restroom/shower facilities nearby.

I would check out the website for whichever park you want to go to though. I've been to a few where I had to bring a hammock stand since hanging from a palmetto bush was the only other option.
    Be safe and have fun!

I don't have access to it at the moment but I did find at one time that 2" straps were required but that was 4 years ago or so. I have a short (4'?) Hugger in my collection now that's 2" wide just in case.
