What's your favorite cord for guy-lines?

I am looking for a good cord to use for guy-lines for my tarps. Any recommendations?

While I like amsteel and similar uhmwpe cordage, the difficulty in getting them to hold a knot makes me think they aren't a good option (maybe 2mm UCRs would be ok with a long bury). I see people using zingit for ridgelines, and lashit might be a good choice for guy-lines, but was wondering about sheathed-dyneema cords (cords with a dyneema/uhmwpe core) that could hold a knot, like a slippery-tautline.


If you made your own tarp(s) what kind of cord do you use? If you replaced the original guy-lines on your tarp, what did you replace it with?

Other consideration: I could use a thin (2mm?) uhmwpe cord like zingit or lashit and make long UCRs and bypass the need for a tautline or any other knots. Does anyone use these for guylines? I prefer something reflective to avoid midnight stumbles.

Without question, I go for one of these in 2mm. Which one depends on whether I want the reflection or not.

This one has essentially the same feel and knot holding ability, but it is much stronger. Overkill for tarp guylines, but I have the OD green version for ridgeline and guylines on my stealth camping tarp.

2.2 Lash It
It holds knots that I use

Siberian hitch with Daisy chain (loop through the loop) for stability

Six wrap Prusik with built in come along
This come along is a circular loop, large enough to fit your hand. The loop is like a circular bike tire sitting on the tarp ridgeline.
The Prusik loop is tied around both the come along loop and the tarp ridgeline.

The come along allows for easy adjustment to Prusik.

Sometimes I tie Farrimond friction hitch. It is the only slip and grip friction knot that is tied in the bight. That is, there is no need to access either end of rope. All other slip and grip friction knots require using the loose end of rope,

I use zing-it/lash-it for both my ridgeline and guy-lines. I watched this video years ago by Brandon at Warbonnet and still use the buntline hitch, trucker's hitch for my ridgeline and the loop and a 1/2 for the guy-lines. I haven't been out for a while, but never had any issues with them and they are easy-peasy.
Yes, I'm old school. While I have quite a bite of titanium hardware, I rarely use it.

I use warbonnet a guy line they sell. But I add bungee cord to my tarp d rings and connect my guy line to that. I tend to over tighten tarps so that helps with that as well as the wind not stressing it to much. That’s just what I do. I saw Shug do it and gave it a try. I have come to prefer it.

I just use a Marlin spike hitch at the stake with my Zing it cordage. I mean, if you really need the adjustability of UCRs go for it...but I just set it and call it a night. Reflective cordage would be nice, but since I tend to walk straight out the open end of the tarp, I usually don't come near my guylines. Now, if there's a bunch of us sharing a tree I can see reflective being handy.
