LA > Indian Creek Rec. Area, Woodworth, LA > Mar 1-3, 2024 - Louisiana Spring Swing

    Louisiana Spring Swing
Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA 71485
    Primitive Camping Area
    Mar 1-3, 2024

The official date for the 2024 Louisiana Spring Swing has been decided!

It's time once again to get together with our fellow hammock enthusiasts for a weekend of hammock camping fun! Join us as we gather to enjoy each other's company, good cooking and general hammock camping tech knowledge. Share some of your latest gear hacks and learn some new ones.

Click HERE to open the spreadsheet and sign up.
It helps us keep a head count on who is coming and what food you’re bringing.

    Who's hanging?
Anyone and everyone, we don’t discriminate because you use a tent or because you reside in another state!

    What we hanging for?
The Annual Louisiana Spring Swing is a car camping, hammock hanging event. You can hike, fish, paddle or just hang out.
If you have a hammock camping related skill or setup to demonstrate to others, please let us know and we will schedule a session or two on Saturday. We are always learning so if you want to teach us something we will all be better for it! None of us are experts in all things and there are likely some very new to hammock camping that will benefit from your knowledge! Teach us a useful skill!

    When we hanging?

March 1st - 3rd, 2024 (Some of us will be arriving on Thursday Feb 29th, so feel free to come out on Thursday!)

    Where are we hanging?
The same place we hung the previous several hangs! Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA. in the Primitive Camping area.
You can find directions at the end of this post. Check back before arrival for updates on the exact section we end up in. We will post a phone # to call us if you get lost.
Click HERE for an overhead map including trails and Primitive camp area.
The campground is on a large reservoir, so bring kayaks, canoes, or boats if you want. There is a hiking trail there, and the Wild Azalea trail is nearby. There are stores nearby too, in case you need to replenish ice and beer supplies.

Here are a few links to find out more about the campground and area...

What is this going to cost me?
NOTICE: This year we've decided that everyone will pay their own fee at the gate.
The cost is $16 per "campsite" (2 campers per site). Since we are hammocking, they will let us have 2 hammocks for the $16 camping fee.

What should campers do about food?
Saturday morning we will be flipping some pancakes and cooking some Dutch Oven Mountain Man Breakfast.
Saturday evening we are planning to have smoked pulled pork and fresh sausage for our annual community feast.
Everyone is encouraged to contribute a side dish to be shared. The raffle will begin immediately following dinner!

How much food do we need to bring for Saturday if I choose to cook something for the community dinner?

In previous years we had about 20 campers so a medium sized casserole type dish will usually allow most campers to have a sample of your masterpiece. Don't be afraid to show off your cooking skills. We have some super awesome cooks and usually have enough food for double the people there!
Dutch oven desserts/cobblers are always a treat!
Please check the sign up spreadsheet to see what food people are bringing.

ALL OTHER MEALS ARE UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL CAMPER!

Although don't be surprised if there are lots of hot dogs being roasted Friday night along with other food being shared!

Cleanup has been lacking in the past years!
Please plan to clean and put away all food prep and serving equipment BEFORE heading to your hammock! Past years have found a couple late night guys picking up the entire mess! The racoons tend to like to tear into items left out! Please don't leave a mess for anyone else!
Also, DON'T throw any trash in the fire that won't immediately burn with an active fire. Smoldering plastic or paper is not what we want to smell while trying to enjoy nature!

The "Parade of Prizes" raffle will take place again this year!

Raffle tickets are $1 each so don't forget to bring some CA$H!
Donations for the raffle are always appreciated. All proceeds from the raffle go towards the overhead costs of the raffle prizes. The number and quality of prizes each year is quite amazing!

    What about firewood?

We burn LOTS of firewood! So plan on bringing as much as you can to contribute to the communal fire pit. There are usually locals in the area that sell wood.

A few things to remember for those attending for the first time.

    * Come completely self-contained as you would on any car camping trip.
    * Don’t forget a camp chair to sit around and hear some of the great stories to be told!
    * LNT - Leave NO Trace - Leave your campsite and the campground in general, cleaner than you found it! We all want to enjoy nature so keep it natural!
    * Please ensure any pets are kept on a leash. Not all camping folk enjoy your pets invading their bubbles.

This campground is PRIMITIVE! There are no tent pads, or lantern hooks or tables!
There are a couple flush toilets with water spigots available. It’s a good distance (short drive/long hike) from the campsites so it’s best to bring enough water with you for you and your guests for the entire weekend. Be sure to bring your own toilet tissue in case the bathroom doesn’t have any.

    Google Directions…

Follow I-49 to exit 73 (Woodworth) LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd.
Continue West on LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd. for approx. 3.5 miles.
Turn left onto Camp Ground Rd.
Follow to park entrance, approx 1.25 miles.
Take the 1st left after the gate and follow to the Primitive area.

DON’T SPEED! There’s usually local police in the area of Campground Rd. And the speed limit drops right before there!

    * We will post the exact location once we arrive there to set up. We will also post a phone # to call for lost wanderers!

Looking forward to it! Sorry I dropped the ball on a Fall hang...too many other obligations with work and the burn ban kind of sucked, so my heart just wasn't in it. LOL. Camping is so much more fun with fire! Can't wait to see everyone.

Oh heck yes. Prizes are in, be ready cause we got some great stuff. I got to dip out Saturday morning for a few hours to run the climbing wall at scout camp but other than that, its on like Donkey Kong.

Bugs: You don't need me to make you look like a fool.
Yosemite Sam: Yer deerrrnnn right I don't!

Just 2 weeks left until the 2024 Louisiana Spring Swing! We have close to 20 signed up so far.
Be sure to sign up on the spreadsheet so we have a good idea of how many to expect and what food you plan to make for us.

Has anyone heard from Barry (CajunRacer)? He hasn’t responded to my emails. Let us know if he’s coming to the hang!
