    Chamelon pullouts with underquilt

I got to try out my new Chameleon on a recent trip. First hammock with pullouts and after attaching HG UQ, they seem to interfere with it staying up. Like the idea of pullouts at head and foot end, but doesn't seem to work with UQ attached. Am I doing something wrong?

With me in the hammock. Since the pullouts are "on top" of the under quilt. I may just need to fiddle with it more, just didn't seem to work at the time.

Try it without the pullouts. I don't use them...even on my symmetrical Chameleon. Yeah, its a little floppy but I'm ok with it. With the WB Eldorado, the pullout for the bugnet is necessary however it's higher on up the net so it doesn't interfere with the UQ at all.

My kids Chameleon has clips that the quilt suspension cord can clip to. At least I think that is what they are for. They are great for keeping the UQ positioned and I wish every hammock had them. But the UQ and the hammock are clipped together and the pullout is from this clip.

At least that is what we do. Seems to work great.

That's exactly what they are for. The 2 closer to the middle of the Hammock body are for the pullout and the ones closer to the ends are to clip onto the UQ suspension. I only use the pullout on the left side of the head end but I clip my UQ in on all 4 corners.

I’m having a Hemlock Mountain Outdoors make me a Redtail right now and had him mod in a few pack hooks right at the inside of the peak hood just for this reason.

Otherwise for the OP I’d look at Dutchwears Underquilt hooks. They have a few no sew options if you don’t use a bug net to the side of the hammock or an over the ridgeline option I’ve seen people talk about using with a bugnet. Another option is modding with push together buttons or Velcro.

I would think the pullouts at the head/foot end are for spacing and the ones in the middle are for UQ suspension because - you have more natural lift near the end of the UQ than you do in the middle. And, the area where you want more room - the bug net away from your face - is at the head end.

I know this UQ suspension vs hammock pullout from using the BlackBird. One solution is to use a stick or some vertical component to bring the pull-out direction move level-ish rather than downward. Then you guy down from the stick. Long ago, one vendor (maybe WildernessLogics) sold short shock-corded light poles specific for that purpose.

Another choice, depending upon your tarp setup, is to use a guyline connection on the tarp as a hammock pullout anchor point.

The tricks to go out, then down, rather than directly down.

Another choice is a DIY scheme like DutchWare now offers. Use a lightweight shock-corded pole over the ridgeline with enough bend to pull the hammock head end out by attaching the pull-out points to the pole.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
