    Getting back on the horse

After taking a few months off to let my foot heal from an injury, I took a quick overnighter. I was greeted by snow flurries on the trail, but the sun broke out in camp. I pondered why my bag of beef jerky really needed a security tag, tested my newest gear addition (a folding saw), spent 5 hours by the campfire thinking about not very much at all, then slept 10 hours. Overall, a good trip to ease back into backpacking.

Ooo! Love the chocolate oranges! My husband’s family always got one in the Christmas stockings.

    Pretty waterfall. Where was this?

I KNEW that looked familiar! It’s a great little swimming hole (in warmer weather). And not nearly as busy as Panther Creek Falls.

There used to be a group hang out at Raven Cliff Falls. My husband and son attended once, but that group doesn’t get together anymore. And that area is a little sketchy sometimes. But lots of good hanging spots.

I find it too difficult to find parking at Raven Cliff Falls to bother even trying it anymore, but there are a ton of good spots to hang there. It's hard for me to pass up the places closer to home, but I need to start forcing more trips into the NE corner of the state.

Thanks for sharing your trip! Smart to let it heal before pushing it.

Another short recovery trip. I didn't expect to see an armadillo and have my water bottle freeze up on the same night. I had to force the issue and go on a night when the forecast was a little below the temperature rating of my gear and it didn't help that I went to bed a little cold after sitting around the campfire too long, but all part of getting back into the rhythm. If the forecast is a bit warmer, might start pushing it out to two nights. Though I'm enjoying all of the luxury gear you get to take stuffing a 55L pack for an overnighter.

The running water is so peaceful. Wasn't it a beautiful weekend? the moon was so bright we didn't even need flashlights!
