I grabbed a 17 key Kalimba. Not as small as a harmonica but it's smaller than a ukulele.

My grandparents made me one of these when I was young. Easy to learn and play. I looked them up on Amazon and couldn't find one that weighed less than a pound. Maybe we need Dutch to create one of these made from Titanium!

Any recommendations on a sling shot?

I did pick up a penny whistle at one point but managed to leave it leaning on a tree in the Olympics. So if you are ever on Upper Cameron and find a tin whistle you know where it came from. Though the odds of anyone else camping where I was camped is pretty low. It was a fine spot for one.

Good thread as I have been struggling with this and just have not been out for a couple of months. I’ve been targeting March but antsy to get on the trail.

The Scout LT from SimpleShot is pretty versatile and easy to install bands on. I shoot clay ammo which shatters on impact and dissolves in rain. As long as you are aware of your surroundings, you could just pick up whatever is on the ground around your hammock, like pinecones or small stones, and use that.

Observing the mind's content during non-activity can be an activity. In some meditation venues, a person may be sitting on a cushion, fed enough, warm enough, rested enough, and yet ... not be at rest. So it can be interesting to "see" what is going on - how just "thoughts" are causing sort of an ill-at-ease. Then you can ask yourself, "Can I control my thoughts?" If so, you can refocus your attention on something immediate rather than thoughts that usually dwell on the past or future.

I'm not advocating any "New Age" philosophy. Just that we have built-in entertainment in watching the thought flow. Being out in the woods, away from usual distractions and obligations, provides an excellent opportunity to observe the thought chain.

A slingshot or musical device would be fun too. I may bring a small ham radio rig.
